EDENS Announces Completion of West University Development Modernization and Delivers New Retail Partners

Plaza in the Park becomes a refreshed, pedestrian-friendly destination with outdoor gathering space for brands to grow their Houston footprint

HOUSTON, TX – July 28, 2022 – EDENS, a retail real estate owner, operator and developer with more than 110 places nationally, announced the completion of the renovation and updates to Plaza in the Park, an outdoor destination with a collection of shops, restaurants and services located in West University near the intersection of Buffalo Speedway and Bissonnet Street.

Modernization of Plaza in the Park began in August of 2021 and included brightening exterior colors of all building façades. A central gathering area with ample outdoor seating and green space improves connectivity between visitors, neighbors and the local community. Vibrant landscaping now greets all guests as they stroll throughout the property. Parking has been reconfigured and updated LED lighting installed to improve walkability and safety.

“The updates to Plaza in the Park create a refreshed experience for residents of West University and surrounding communities,” said Tom Kiler, Managing Director of EDENS. “Paired with a new green space and a curation of new retail and restaurant offerings, we know Plaza in the Park will continue to be a bustling gathering destination that reflects the evolving tastes of the neighborhood.”

New retail partners joining Plaza in the Park include

Craft Pita, a Mediterranean dining experience serving healthy, fresh meals with ingredients and goods sourced from local farms, bakeries and purveyors. The 2,500 square-foot location, opening later this year, will be the second location in Houston and will serve lunch and dinner daily.

AKT, a fitness studio focused on a 45-minute, full body workout that combines cardio dance intervals with strength and toning. The 2,443 square-foot location, now open, offer signature classes including dance, bands, tone and circuit.

“We’re very excited to add these new retail partners to other recently opened brands including Face Foundrie, Current Meditation and YogaSix,” said Michael Hale, Senior Vice President of Leasing at EDENS. “The modernization of the property ensures street presence of our retailers and showcases their offerings at one of the city’s most enviable blocks.”
